Justice for Murdered Sheffield Mum - Please share this post.

As you may know My mum was murdered when i was 5 years old I couldn't defend my mum as a child and I couldn't get my head around what happened to mum until I was older. Had I been older I wouldn't have let it get to this point without something been said and done about it.

Me and Mum

When i was 16 I started by launching the website in June 2008 i didn't have much knowledge about what happened to my mum, i didn't have any support or communication from South Yorkshire Police i never did prior to the website being launched. I learned more the more i read articles printed about my mum,

A month after starting the website i went to the star newspaper as i was advised by a friend this sparked a huge interest by the media lets say i got to learn the good side and the bad side of the press but to me the press were more helpful than the police.

They did what i wanted the police to do they got the message out that there is still a murdered out there and he's still walking our streets but at the same time we had a lot to deal with my Nan was diagnosed with lung cancer, we was told she didn't have long left to live and it was hard to come to terms with especially when my heads just coming to terms with the sadistic things i learned about what happened to my mum and my determination to find those responsible not only for me and for my mum but for my nan i didn't want her to die, but even more so not knowing who killed her daughter but my nan died naturally so i was able to somewhat grieve,

Nan and Me

I can't say I have finished grieving for nan as i still do but i live in comfort sometimes believing she's being looked after by mum up there in heaven but in another thought I'm thinking about the horrid things that happened to my mum that the person/s responsible have got away for, for 18 years and its not right.

This person/s are evil they beat my mum, they hurt her, they raped her, they took a young vulnerable woman took advantage of her gentle nature and tried to kill her in more ways than one, strangulation, drowning, stabbing multiple times either would have been enough but because of the brutality it is not known which act actually killed my mum to do this to another human being is unthinkable and those responsible need to be brought to justice i try to get it out there as much and as far as i can but I have got to be honest i don’t feel like I have much fight left in me.

The police aren't willing to provide the resources for the current investigation to develop any faster or for appeals such as crimewatch so all i have is the hope of the website/facebook/twitter appeals will bring us what we need in order to find those responsible.

The last appeal made by the police was in April 1999 between then an now other than backing of off my campaign articles i cannot say they have done much as far as appeals go.

Unfortunately the police have lost/destroyed what possessions and clothing was left of my mums, so other than a few photo's I have little to remember my mum so the only comfort i have is hope that one day those responsible will be caught for what they did.

I need closure, my family need closure and its draining what's left of our lives not knowing, not being able to see justice for mum those responsible are not going to hand themselves in after 18 years so if anyone is reading this that might have some information regardless how small it maybe to message either myself, contact the police or crimestoppers and if you don't have any information i kindly ask you to share this post in the hope that someone who does know will see it.

The below are confirmed and possible sightings of my mum prior to her murder during the week she was missing.

Thursday 7th August 1997 - Confirmed Sighting at Nothern General Hospital.

Saturday 9th August 1997 - Possible Sighting - a man was seen talking to Pat about 12 hours before she was last seen alive. Mum

Question's we'd like answering if anyone can help are.

Did anyone see her in or around the Northern General Hospital?

Where did she stay its still unknown where she stayed for the week prior to her murder but she must have stayed somewhere.. please come forward if you let my mum stay at yours in august 1997, if you haven't done anything you won't have anything to worry about just come forward now.

And could anyone who has already told the police they have seen her and/haven’t told them and don't want to speak to the police could they contact me either via the website or via my facebook page so i could try put together some possible timeline of the week prior to my mums murder. Thank you

News Article - Little Danny's tragic first day at school

This article is from 3rd SEPTEMBER 1997

Little Danny's tragic first day at school

By PAUL WHITEHOUSE

3rd SEPTEMBER 1997

IT SHOULD be on of the proudest days of any mother's life.

But today little Danny Grainger started his first term at Meynell School without his tragic mum, Pat. to see him off.

Danny starts school little more than three weeks after his murdered mum's body was discovered in "The brook", an area of open land alongside the Parson Cross estate where they lived. The youngster is now being cared for by grandparents Mina and Roy, who have broken the news of his mum's death as gently as possible.

Son of Sheffield murder victim: “Killer might never be found.”
Monday 27 July 2015

The son of a Sheffield woman brutally murdered fears his mum’s killer will never be found as he marks the 18th anniversary of her death.
Daniel Grainger was aged just five when the body of his 25-year-old mum Patricia was discovered under a bed base at a brook close to their Parson Cross home.

“I will keep fighting for justice for my mum but unless somebody comes forward with any new evidence or the killer hands himself in the police aren’t going to look at the case themselves,” the 23-year-old said today. “It worries me that her killer could still be out there walking the streets, it could be somebody I see every day - it’s not a nice feeling. I feel that I have missed out on having a mother-son relation.”

**Yet the 50+ items of clothing and property of my mums recovered from our home that they destroyed without my or my familys permission had never been forensically tested!

ITV Calendar Interview 2015 Update

Interview with ITV calendar over with now must say it was a relief to be over as it was very nerve wracking as due to the recent revelations from south yorkshire has made a big impact on my life that the feelings of hate are high and my determination to finding my mums killer is really high on my prioritys. i want justice for my mun and i want the people of parson cross who may know what happend to my mum or have some information they felt wasnt relevant at the time to come forward so we can put this to rest and let my mum rest in peace nearly 18 years since someone took my mum away in such a violent sadistic attack and left my mum to catch her last breath in the stream after been attacked in such horrific ways that this person/s cannot be human or show remorse that they can happily live there lifes for 18 years knowing full well what they did that they took advantage of my vulnerable mum and chose to take her life. Such cruelty deserves justice and if the police wont go out to get that justice ill speak out and fight for justice for my mum. We know she was alive at the brooke but this does not mean this did not occur elsewhere and after beating stabbing and raping my mum this sort of attack would have been hard to commit in the dark so another reaso to believe this could have happend somewhere other than the brook so please please think back to 1997 did you see anything suspicous around parson cross hartley brooke or colley drive did you see any vehicles parked that didnt normally visit the area anything you know please come forward... we need to find this evil scum!

Fuming at South Yorkshire Police

Just got back from meeting with south yorkshire police must say i was expecting half the outcome already but im fed up of the bull shit police service we call south yorkshire police, im fed up of detective after dectetive telling me the same old storys to believe that they have the ability to solve my mums murder when since the beggining they claim to have been investigating my mums case thoroughly yet in 2008 when we first thought my mum was found under a mattress we was told that it was infact a bed base and that the bed base was within south Yorkshire polices possession but was within one of the many storage facilities this story later changed to that infact the bed base was lost or had been destroyed yet at todays meeting the findings from the investigation was that the bed base was infact in the polices possession up until june 2003 and sometime later it had been authorised to be destroyed due to health and safety, apparently being the object that was placed on top of my mum's body doesn't make this item significant evidence and that samples taken back in 1997 are sufficient, The clothing and possession taken from home that belonged to my mum was seized by police amongst these was personal items such as drawings and colourings that were done by my mum basically anything belonging to my mum was taken by south Yorkshire police in 1997 have been lost which we was only made aware of when i requested to know whether they still had her belonging but this now has changed to they have been destroyed because they have been unable to find them.. this to include the clothing my mum was murdered in. LOST! evidence destroyed! Back in 2008 we was informed by the police that the police have CCTV footage of my mum in the footage also was a main suspect yet now guess what this CCTV never existed! i can't explain my frustration at the moment at these findings im lost at what to do all the police have to say is that things are different now and there sorry? Sorry isn't going to get us justice sorry isn't going to bring my mum's possessions back, Sorry isn't going to bring back this evidence which could hold that vital bit of DNA we need to solve this... basically the police have fudged up the entire investigation but there sorry. sorry isn't going to make them do anything else. they claim to follow leads when they come in but they don't go out and find those leads to begin with, they don't approach the news papers, or do anything in the local area to get this information. but the worst thing is my mums possessions i have nothing left of my mum because they took EVERYTHING and didn't bother to give any of it back even though the items they took from the home was never tested forensically any one of the many possessions could have held DNA of someone who wasn't known to the investigation anything could have come from them, maybe it wouldn't but with the police Losing them i can now never get them independently tested myself as i have lost all trust in south Yorkshire police. They have lost everything belonging to my mum lost evidence that supposedly now never even existed, I've complained through the proper channels and ive wrote the the MP previously what else other than this facebook campaign , the website and news papers what else am i supposed to do now, what are you supposed to do when your told all your mums belongings and other evidence has been destroyed that your mums memory is now just that, nothing left other than the odd few photos to show who she was... im honestly disgusted, heartbroken and fuming at South Yorkshire police.

Evil scum

The thing is with somewhere like parson cross is when something is said it doesn’t take long for it to get back around a lot of people have started rumours over the years in regards to what happened to my mum prior to her murder and to what actually happened yet these people rather than go to the police, they  spread it around and make something of nothing become something so shocking It can tear a grieving family apart i agree sometimes in some situation speculation does and can pay off however please remember  we are a family grieving and if what you think you know is true please go to the police with what you have those are the only ones able to eliminate the rumours over the actual facts which some people like to give false information which rather than helps the investigation causes more heartache and stress,

Prior to my mum's murder our family was bullied by a lot of people not only youths but adults for the way my mum was,  she would sit out on the front and people would spit, smack or insult her for no reason other than to bully. a lot of these same people are people who now have children and thankfully seem to have grown out of it but there is those that haven’t grown up and still act in these cruel ways with no intention of helping other than to cause more stress to fill their needs of being who they are.

For myself i have experience of being bullied for what happen to my mum from being young whether it be the kids in the playground or the adults waiting to collect their kids
Someone always had something to say or snigger knowing full well i would hear even though i was only a child myself and unfortunately we are not alone other people are bullied for being different but being different doesn't give anyone the right to bully, harm or harass anyone, luckily there is more people out there that are good than bad but unfortunately the bad tend to leave a mark that you cannot undo just remember whatever you may find to bully about someone different to you anything could easily happen to you or someone you care about, i hope to god what we went through as a family both prior and after my mums murder and even to this day are still going through.
doesn't happen to anyone else to have so many people that could be so cruel un-necessarily and don't think about their actions but one of the few memory’s of my mum is of me witnessing someone literally beat up my mum for no reason while i was there i could only have been 4 or 5 but its still there clear to this day scarred on my mind these sort of people whether they grow out of it or not impacted our family a lot and wasn’t any better than the people that have done this.

And the same immature adults are now still doing this but its only cruel rumours that people are still spreading when the only thing they really know is their own name.
Its pains me that these people have nothing better to do but just remember what happened to my mum could have easily happened to yours, My mum’s murder was down to someone who still walks the street and any vicious rumours being thrown around are doing nothing than wasting my family’s time. I understand people like to make assumption and think they may know everything but before you go round running your mouth spreading stuff and manipulating even your own words take a look in the mirror and ask yourself seriously what is the point!

One rumour that circulate involves my family, my mum had leaning difficulties and behavioral difficulties which atop the of the bullying would probably account for all the broken windows she broke or why sometimes she had to be control to the point of being throw out of the house to calm her down people perceived this as my mum being beaten as she would have bruises or scratched but fortunately for me I can and my family can remember a lot of what went on behind closed doors which people without children with learning or behavioral difficulties won’t understand I was only 5 but I have the intelligence to determine what is fact and what is hear say that’s gone around more than anything and turned into something way out of proportion but this still in no way gives anyone the right to do what they did the only people who need to look closer to home is you starting these horrible rumours my mum and family was attacked both psychically an verbally every day and she was beaten and suffered bruise on many occasions due to the evil scum that they was I’m sorry for a long rant but I had to post.

My Thoughts

I have just been going over and over this in my head so I need clear a few things up.

According to a FOI request my mum was classed as being murdered by manual strangulation however this is not the case,

Her cause of death was actually recorded as inconclusive as the post-mortem could not determine the actual cause of death as whoever did kill my mum tried to do so in more horrific ways than one. Strangulation, Beating, Stabbing, Cutting and possible drowning are all possible cause of death as either one alone would have been enough to do it but the level of violence wasn't necessary and leads to believe the culprit has some history of violence and or sexual offences which even to this day could also be unreported.

Her murder more than likely started somewhere other than on the brook (Parson Cross Sheffield) where her body was discovered, because it was close to the road (Colley Drive) and houses however had it been dark out where her body was located there’s barely enough light in the day never mind at night which is another reason for me to believe it took place elsewhere.

But

My mum was alive at the brook at the time she was left there. Whether the culprit knew this or not due to water from the stream being located in her lungs indicating my mum took her last breath there in the stream. This also could be a reason for lack of dna as she was in the water for around 24 hours but some partial DNA has been recovered.

My mum wasn’t a small lady and although she was vulnerable mentally,  she was a big lady and  she would have put up some sort of a fight, This leads me to believe this wasn’t a small person or it could have more than likely involved more than the one person.

Bruising on her body and face means not only did this person try multiple ways to kill my mum he/they beat her I hate to think how scared she must have been, to be beaten by someone, then to be attacked in multiple ways yet knowing she was going to die at the hands of someone she probably saw as a friend who took advantage of her nature.

But she kept fighting until she couldn’t fight anymore and she took her last breath on the brook cold, frightened, and unaware of what’s coming next it hurts so much just thinking about what this person/s did which is what gives me the determination to keep going to get the scum responsible ,it’s not going to stop our heartache, the thoughts in our heads, or the pain  we feel, its not going to bring my mum back, or take away the pain she suffered but it will bring justice and justice is what’s not being served.

If like I said before if my mum was attacked elsewhere the person would need to live close enough to area in order to be able to take my mum there when he/they had done what they did to my mum, or had access to a vehicle.

Her body was located in the stream underneath part of a divan bed base, The bed base could have already been at the scene as it was/is a popular fly tipping site, however the bed base could have been put there by those responsible they could have pre-planned it and dumped the bed base days before taking my mum there.

If you lived in the area at the time you will remember the police presence in the area.

Did you see anything suspicious around the area that at the time you thought might not have been useful?

Are you afraid to approach the police?

You can approach me or crime stoppers if you did see anything.

Did you see anyone lurking around, Any vehicles in the area you haven’t seen before anyone taking or dumping things?, Did anyone you used to know that you think changed their behaviour or move out pretty quickly after august 1997.

Suspicions or hearsay or facts anything you might remember could be useful please get in touch

Did you dump a bed base on Hartley brook? Afraid to get in touch incase you would get in trouble for fly tipping please regardless of you r reasons for not coming forward sooner please do come forward the police don’t care about historic fly tipping. And as long as information is coming in the police have leads to follow and this stops the investigation becoming inactive.

Unfortunately the police destroyed/misplaced the bed base so I can’t provide any information in regards to the bed base.

If you got in touch previously in 1997 or around then please get in touch again the information may have been lost as SYorkshire police don’t have a good track at keep evidence.
